What is CDBS?

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) commenced on 1 January 2014 and provides access to benefits for basic dental services to around 3 million children aged 2-17 years.

The CDBS provides individual benefits for a range of services including examinations, x-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals and extractions. Benefits are not available for orthodontic or cosmetic dental work and cannot be paid for any services provided in a hospital.

Eligible children will have access to a benefit cap of $1095.00 over a two calendar year period.

To be eligible a child must be aged between 2-17 years and their family must receive Family Tax Benefit Part A or a relevant Australian Government payment.

Families can check whether their child is eligible for the CDBS by contacting the Department of Human Services. General information about the program can also be found on the Department of Human Services website.

How do I use CDBS?

  1. You can confirm your child’s eligibility and balance amount by accessing your Medicare online account at myGov or calling the Medicare general enquiries line on 132 011. Or fill out the form on the left and one of our friendly team will check for you!

  2. Make an appointment with either your private dental provider and let them know you are eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.

  3. At the time of the appointment, the dental provider must discuss your child’s treatment before providing the services. After this has been discussed, you will need to sign a consent form.

  4. When the dental provider has provided the services agreed for your child, they will either bulk bill you.
